Mission & Purpose
The White City School Council's mission is to provide an accountable system for local school governance within the Prairie Valley School Division. Our goal is to ensure White City School students are all given the opportunity to have a quality educational experience by fostering a strong partnership and ongoing collaborative relationships between the school, the parents and guardians of White City School students, and the community.
We will fulfill our mission by:
- Providing parents and guardians with an opportunity to participate in and enhance their children's educational experience.
- Providing a forum through which:
a. Information and school practices and school board policies can be communicated to parents and guardians and community members.
b. Parents' ideas, recommendations and concerns on school matters can be effectively communicated back to the school administration and board. - Representing parents’ views and concerns in a constructive way to the school principal.
- Organizing activities, programs and events that support a quality educational experience.
- Coordinating volunteer and fundraising activities within the school.
Council Meetings
Meetings are held September to June on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm at the School. How You Can Get Involved
All parents are members of the Council and are welcome to attend meetings and / or participate in volunteer activities. This is an excellent way to contribute to the school (community), learn about White City School, and meet teachers, administrators and other parents. The Council is comprised of a group of voluntary board members. Your attendance at a meeting does not imply future voluntary commitments.
Programs
Hot Lunch – Once per month we offer a meal to the students (at a minimal cost) as a treat to them and the parents!
Room Parent Program – One or two parents from each classroom represent the parents in assisting the teacher with any number of tasks including field trips, baking, crafts, etc.
Fundraising – We organize two major fundraising projects every year to help raise money for events and programs. For example, the funds raised may be used to subsidize or pay for one field trip per class per year and purchase equipment for the kids to use. Look for a chance to order your holiday goodies with 'In Good Taste' in November.
Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) – With student and parent involvement, we focus on doing good deeds for teachers, staff and students throughout the year.
Staff Appreciation Week – This is a national program every February. We spotlight our terrific staff and do special things for them – with the assistance of students and parents.
Welcome Back BBQ/ Yearend Picnic – A welcome back BBQ is planned in conjunction with a school open house at the start of the school year in September. This event provides the opportunity for parents to meet teachers and obtain information about the school and or programs. A yearend family picnic is scheduled in June to mark the end of a school year.
School Projects – We focus on improvements for our school such as a new play structure, landscaping, a wish list of items as identified by school administration, staff and students for funding considerations and any number of other items we feel are enhancements to our school.
Bylaw & Policy Committee – Council has approved changes to bylaws and policies as proposed by this committee in adherence to guidelines defining the role of a school council. This committee is currently on hold due to the pending legislative decisions that may impact our existing bylaws and policies.
Community Growth Impact On Our School – The impact of the high rate of growth in our community on our school is a concern that has council leading a rally to request both a short term and long term plan of action from the School Division and the Government of Saskatchewan. We will continue this quest for the 2009-2010 school year.
